À propos de l’œuvre

La maison vue du jardin aux roses, par Claude Monet

Claude Monet · 1922 -1924 · Marmottan 5086 · Wildenstein 1946

The House seen from the rose gardenhand painted reproduction

Golden yellow invades the sky and the central gap; the red and turquoise house leans from the left, while a large dome of red, green and purple rose bushes occupies almost the entire right half.

Look at the work

A red and golden garden absorbs the house almost entirely

The facade appears on the left with turquoise and red verticals, topped by an oblique roof. It is immediately covered by branches and flowers. The very warm yellow of the bottom forms a large breathing zone which extends to the upper edge and cuts out the plant masses.

The main rose bush curves from right to center like a vault. Monet mixes brick red, olive green, pink and a few blues. In the foreground, the orange path merges with the flowerbeds: its direction is perceptible, but no clear border separates it from the plants.

This version is more solar than inventory 5087: the warmth of yellow and orange pushes the reds forward, while the turquoise house stays behind.

Composition, touch and light

What Monet builds behind the impression of snapshot

Three precise elements allow us to understand this composition and the essential difficulties of faithful reproduction.

Analysis of The House seen from the rose garden - Claude Monet
01

A large yellow background rather than a descriptive sky

Yellow acts as a continuous light behind the shapes. You must maintain your variations of ocher, cream and orange to avoid a uniform flat area.

02

The rose bush builds like a curved mass

On the right, the keys follow a rounded movement. This plant volume gives a powerful counterweight to the oblique house on the left.

03

A melted alley in the massifs

The orange stripe at the bottom leads towards the center, but it is crossed by reds, greens and mauves. The depth comes from overlap, not from a drawn border.

Details and visual documents

Observe the material and the exact version

The additional images show the difficult-to-read passages in the full view and, where it exists, the actual appearance of the work at the museum.

The rose bush vault in the yellow lightThe detail shows how reds, greens and mauves are mixed in the plant mass. Yellow touches pass between the branches and prevent the shape from becoming opaque.

The official view measures 1500 × 1287 px and the detail 900 × 980 px. The actual photograph of the work reaches 3365 × 2955 px. All three files are real WebPs and no artificial enlargements have been applied.

Documented benchmarks

Three pieces of information specific to this work

These facts concern this precise version and are verified from the notice of the institution which keeps it.

Version01

Inventory 5086, Wildenstein 1946

This 81 × 92 cm canvas is dated between 1922 and 1924. The notice from the Marmottan Monet Museum specifies that it is not signed and keeps it under number 5086.

Difference02

The goldenest version of the two neighboring files

Among the compositions of the same title, this can be recognized by its vast yellow light, the large red rose bush on the right and the orange path. These landmarks distinguish it in particular from inventory 5087.

Provenance03

A work that remained with the Monets until 1966

Preserved by Michel Monet after the death of his father, the painting entered the Marmottan Monet Museum with its legacy from 1966 and joins the exceptional collection of Giverny's latest works.

Your reproduction

What the painter must preserve

Fidelity here depends on precise relationships between light, touch, depth and color temperature.

  • Variations of golden yellow without uniform effect
  • The rounded volume of the large rose bush on the right
  • The turquoise verticals of the house on the left
  • The orange aisle mixed with the reds and greens in the foreground

Presentation in your interior

A palette designed with the room

This very warm version brings a luminous and dense presence. Its yellows, reds and greens find balance on a cream, dull terracotta, deep green or midnight blue wall, with natural materials.
