Look at the work

A clear path at the edge of dense undergrowth

The forest occupies almost the entire surface. Fine trunks overlap in blue, green and brown, while the path starts from the bottom right and goes up towards a pale yellow opening.

The keys follow the relief: vertical on the trunks, oblique in the foliage and curved along the path. This variation makes the space readable without detailed academic drawing.

The Van Gogh Museum places the work in Paris between May and July 1887. Its dimensions, its inventory s0080V1962 and its references F309/JH1315 identify this version precisely.

Composition, touch and color

This oil on canvas measures 45.3 × 37.7 cm. The vertical framing gives the path and the clear gap an essential role in depth.
