No records show that Leonardo da Vinci married. No sons or daughters are recognized in his accounts, correspondence or will. He therefore dies without a known direct descendant.
His intimate life remains more difficult to summarize. He lives mainly in male households made up of students, assistants and servants. An accusation of relations between men was filed in Florence in 1476 and then abandoned. The accusation before the Night Office
Accused, then not convicted
In Florence, an organization called the Night Office continued sexual relations between men. In 1476, an anonymous denunciation targeted Leonardo and three other young men about Jacopo Saltarelli. The case was examined and then abandoned, notably due to lack of sufficient evidence.
This file confirms that Leonardo was exposed to the sexual and judicial surveillance of his time. It constitutes neither a condemnation nor a detailed account of a relationship. Historians can integrate it into the study of his desires and his environment, but not make him say more.
The portrait presented here is traditionally identified as Salaikh, arriving much later in Leonardo's life. This identification itself remains debated: the image therefore does not illustrate the affair of 1476.

The best documented connections are made of work, cohabitation, dependence, affection and inheritance.
Salaigh
Leonardo welcomed Salaikh when he was still a child and kept him around for almost thirty years. His notes combine irritation, expenses, gifts and fascination with his beauty. Salaikh is an assistant, housemate, testamentary beneficiary and perhaps model of certain male types. The exact nature of their intimate relationship is undocumented.
Francesco Melzi
Coming from a Milanese family, Melzi accompanied Leonardo to Rome then to France, treated him in his last years and inherited the manuscripts. Their bond is clearly deep, intellectual and emotional. However, the sources do not allow us to attribute a sexual dimension to it with certainty.
The other members of the house
Zoroastro, Battista de Vilanis, Boltraffio or Marco d'Oggiono belong to different periods and functions. A court artist's household is also a place of work, service and economic dependence; we must not transform every proximity into a romantic relationship.
Female portraits
Painting a woman does not mean loving her
Romanticized biographies sometimes confuse model, muse and mistress. The documents require a more sober reading.

His portrait is a social and poetic commission. No document makes her a partner of Leonardo.

It shows that he was charged with three other young men, then that the case was dropped. It delivers neither a complete intimate story nor a certain modern identity.
